Natural Ash Hardwood Flooring

The allure of natural Ash hardwood flooring

Natural Ash hardwood flooring is prized for its striking grain patterns and warm, clear hues. Thanks to its lack of tannins, the wood excepts stain very easily, making Ash a perfect choice for contemporary hardwood floors or for design schemes that feature contrasting hardwood floors.

How to create stunning natural Ash hardwood flooring

One of the best things about choosing natural Ash hardwood flooring from Carlisle is your ability to customize it for your interior design. We offer a range of options for customization that ensure your Carlisle floor will be the perfect reflection of your sense of style.

Choosing a grade

We offer several proprietary grades that let you establish the personality for your floor. Our Original Grade floors maintain more of the character in the wood, showing more knots, mineral streaks and color variations. Our Heirloom Grade offers a more refined and consistent look, with fewer knots and variations. And our Signature Blend combines elements of both Original and Heirloom grades to customize your floor to your individual style.

Define the structure

At Carlisle, we offer natural Ash hardwood flooring made with solid wood or engineered floorboards. Solid ash floorboards are cut from a single piece of timber. Engineered floorboards are made with a thick veneer of Ash that’s adhered to multiple layers of a suitable plywood substrate to form a floorboard with a very strong core. Engineered floors are ideal for installation in locations that have greater fluctuation in humidity and moisture.

Select a width

Natural Ash hardwood flooring from Carlisle can be fashioned with floorboards up to 10″ wide, though the average width tends to be around 8″. Wider planks produce floors with fewer seams to create a more beautiful aesthetic and a more spacious feeling. Using consistent widths in your floorboards will offer an even and modern feel, while varying the widths of your floorboards creates visual interest and a more rustic look.

Consider texture

Using a variety of proprietary texturing techniques, our craftsmen can distress a new wood floor to give it the appearance of a surface that has been lived on for generations. Techniques like Hand-Scraped Edges and Hit and Miss marks recreate the appearance of floors that were fashioned more than a century ago, while wire-brush techniques reproduce the look of floors that have been gently worn down over time.

Enjoy limitless color

Many of our customers prefer to seal their Ash floors with a clear finish that preserves the natural look of the wood. But for customers who want to stain their floors, we offer a virtually unlimited selection of colors and can match a stain to the hue of almost any item.

Ash vs. other hardwood floors

When considering hardwood floors, your first choice is always about the species of wood: Ash floors vs. Bamboo flooring vs. Oak, for example.

Many customers are drawn to the warm color tones of natural Ash hardwood flooring and its prominent, meandering grain patterns. Ash can easily be stained to a variety of colors, thanks to a lack of tannins in the wood.

When considering Ash against other woods, the choice often comes down to density and appearance. When comparing Hickory vs. Ash, for example, Hickory will offer a much denser floorboard, making it harder to install but more impervious to dents and scratches. The density of Red Oak vs. Ash is almost identical, but Red Oak offers floorboards with warm, salmon undertones, while the color of ash is more toward cool blonde.

In addition to natural Ash hardwood flooring, Carlisle offers a wide range of hardwood and pine options.

  • White Oak, features light, nutty brown hues and dramatic grain features.
  • Red Oak, features deep salmon tones in the heartwood and is one of the most popular choices in hardwood flooring.
  • Brown Maple has varying hues of rich brown, gold and amber and subtle and consistent grain patterns.
  • Walnut boasts magnificent chocolate hues with surprising auburn undertones.
  • Birch has grain patterns that vary from subtle swirls to flame-like effects and coloration that ranges from rich reddish-brown to warm amber and blonde.
  • Cherry features deep red tones that darken to a burnished auburn color as the wood ages.
  • Hickory has highly distinctive grain patterns and hues that range from brown to beige to red.
  • Heart Pine comes in rich colors that range from pumpkin and amber to darker hues.
  • Eastern White Pine shows dense grain patterns with subtle knots.
