A few weeks back we told you how we are West Coast design studio in Los Angeles was going to participate in The Avenues Art and Design Walk on the weekend of March 26 and 27. It was an event designed to draw attention to the neighborhood that is full of top design firms, upscale interior and other retails shops and high-end homes. Carlisle’s Dan O’Neill led our participation all the way. The event chairman, Darren Gold, wrote to tell us he felt Carlisle’s participation was key to its success. Dan has this to say about the event: “We had many people coming and going all day. People sat outside and enjoyed the live music of Jon Howard on the porch of the showroom. Even the Hollywood Tour Bus stopped in for pictures and a few songs. All in all, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and Carlisle’s corner location and shady tree were an ideal spot to kick off spring in West Hollywood.”
Today we bring you some photos from the Carlisle showroom part of the walk.

Here are some pictures from an Omaha, Nebraska customer, Jimmy Lomax, who installed our Eastern White Pine in 1,330 square feet of his newly built home. Mr. Lomax installed, stained and finished the floors himself. Mr. Lomax reports that he found our company on the Internet when he went in search of wide plank floors as a unique option.
“I chose the pine floor because of its ability to wear. I didn’t want to have to refinish them all the time because I have two dogs and two children,” he wrote. “I also wanted them to look like they have been here for 100 years.”
His floor was delivered in the snow and got acclimated in his garage during a two-week period. It was about zero degrees outside when it was time to install, so he had his garage heated with a jet heater to get the work done. The installation took about two days, with Mr. Lomax reporting that the finishing part was easy. Though finishing it with Tung Oil made the job take a little longer, he says it was worth it to make the floor “more forgiving” in terms of refinishing.
“The neighbors love the floor,” he writes. “It is such a rich-looking floor for a price that was not a budget breaker.”

Take a stunning room, add the kind of stone that was used largely throughout Rome’s famous Collosseum, and then criss-cross it with Carlisle’s 7-inch Walnut planks, finished with Tung oil and what have you got? This:
This entire floor was installed by Vlad Blashin after the homeowner changed his mind regarding the ultimate size of the individual tiles, which are made out of travertine. Mr. Blashin had to re-cut each piece of tile and he wrote back to us to tell us that the accompany planks of Walnut had been cut so precisely that it made his task a whole lot easier. We were happy to hear that! The end result certainly shows how nicely wood and tile mix in such a floor.
