2014 Pantone Color of the Year – Radiant Orchid

It’s that time of year again, a time when the Pantone Color of the Year is unveiled.

For the last 13 years, Pantone Color Institute has released its choice for “Color of the Year”.  The selection is meant to reflect “what people are looking for…Not necessarily the hot fashion color of the moment, but a color crossing all areas of design…”.  This year’s color – Radiant Orchid, is no exception.

From handbags to textiles, to mini skirts and linens, you’ll see this color throughout the year in interior and fashion design – if you haven’t already seen it hit the runways!  But, to give you a little inspiration for your home or commercial project, we’ve discovered a few interiors that took the bold step of introducing this color into their design.

Your personal interior design style and affinity toward this particular color will dictate where and how you use this color in your project.  You can completely makeover a room using it as the primary color, or consider utilizing it in key design elements like a piece of artwork or other accent pieces, cabinetry, or simply repainting a wall.  Here are a few ideas.

Rooms

This Radiant Orchid inspired Bathroom, from Apartment Therapy takes “pink” to a whole new level from the bath tub and walls to the pine flooring tastefully stained to match.

If you love this color but maybe aren’t quite ready to complete an entire make-over try something a little more subtle such as in this interior from In5spire.me.   The artwork on the wall adds a rich touch of color to the calm gray, cream, beige, and white tones of the room.

Interior Woodworking

If you are considering adding, creating or remodeling a room into a library, office or will be introducing some fashionable cabinetry into your home, why not consider a vibrant Radiant Orchid tone such as in this home from The Aestate.com.  They’ve paired the color with dark wood floors, and colorful ottomans.

Furniture

Last, but never least, is the furniture selection.  This is probably one of the easier items to replace if you tire of the Radiant Orchid color after a few years.  But while the trend lasts, RobbReport announced last week that Luxury Italian Furniture Maker Selva has styles to fit perfectly.
