Cherry, a wood with few knots
Posted by Christine Halvorson
We got these wonderful photos from customers Deb DeNardo and Bill Jackson, who are in the process of installing Carlisle’s Cherry floors in two rooms in their home. So far, they’ve completed an 850-square foot bedroom. The photos here show the floor, in 4- to 8-inch widths, finished with four coats of Tung Oil. They purchased a total of 850 square feet and are installing it themselves. We helped them choose original grade Cherry, chosen from the heartwood. Notice there are no knots in the shots.

One room leads to another, and another in Heart Pine
Posted by Christine Halvorson
This project in Marathon, Florida involved 2,300 square feet of Carlisle’s Heart Pine, which we delivered pre-finished. When the customer first ordered from us, he had enough left over to do another small room, and, then, he liked it so much he did yet another room!
The final room was finished on-site, in 5- and 7-inch widths. According to our Sales & Design Consultant Rick Menard, Mr. Miller, the customer, called us to et advice on how best to do the finishing on site to match the pre-finished we had delivered. After Rick talked him through the process, he had this to say:
“Thanks for your advice on finishing my floor. It turned out very nicely…I have been very pleased with Carlisle’s products and hope I can use it in future projects.”

Customer finds his “dream floor” on a fateful day last November
Posted by Christine Halvorson
We always love getting notes from our satisfied customers when a project is complete, and this one really caught our attention. Typewritten on a piece of paper and everything, one customer, Michael Ortmeir, send us a long letter to praise our product, our service and our employee, Adam Whitney, and we’re tickled pink.
Mr. Ortmeir and his wife Susan Hight live in Arlington, pretty close to the Carlisle D.C. showroom, and the couple found Carlisle back in November. He writes, “It was a fateful day. I found the end of my dream, a wide-plank floor option in virtually any species and finish. I had all but given up hope of finding my dream floor, having searched the inter-net, design magazines, etc. for months.”
The Ortmeirs, with Adam’s help, settled on Carlisle’s Original Grade Eastern White Pine in 5-, 7-, 9- and 11-inch widths. It was then stained with Gingerbread and finished with four coats of Tung oil. They were making a special place in their home for Susan’s father, from Chicago, to ultimately move into and thought the floors would really make the difference, Adam says. It was 1,500 square-feet that was installed in their basement, glued directly onto the concrete slab. (This is never a problem. Read more about that process here.) Adam arranged for one of our preferred installers, Bob Humpreys of Majestic Wood Floors, to put the floor in for them. Mr. Ortmeir writes that Adam…“was so impressive with his knowledge and love of his product that it was intellectual and metaphysical bonding at first meeting…he made all the difference in making my project a stunning success. Moreover, his and your company’s commitment to sustainable forest management struck a particular chord with me, being an issue of the Pacific Northwest where concern for our natural resources has sadly been an after-thought at best.”
Well, what can we say? Thank you, Mr. Ortmeir, for writing and for choosing Carlisle.

Crafting not just floors but a culture of personal warmth
Posted by Christine Halvorson
Jim and Patsy Wilson of Summit, New Jersey recently completed having their new Cherry floor installed. As the last nails were driven into the floor, they were kind enough to send a note along to use about their experience working with Carlisle and, in particular, our sales and design staff Adam Whitney out of the Washington D.C. design center. The Wilsons found Carlisle some two years ago now for their project. They write, “Along the way we found an astonishing company that crafts a culture of personal warmth and professional excellence that is reflected in the entire order process and the wood floors themselves, and we made a new friend.”
We are delighted that they think of our Adam as their new friend and even more delighted that they took the time to send us a note.
If you have questions about the process we undergo to make sure you have an equally rewarding experience, please check out We Make Buying Easy.

Monday Morning Mailbag: Customer in love with Heart Pine
Posted by Christine Halvorson
We got a note and photograph from customer Lisa Cahill recently and thought we would share them. Lisa had ordered 2,200 square free of 6- to 10-inch wide Heart Pine for her home. She selected a blended grade and the boards were finished only with Tung Oil, no stain. Below is a photo of how the floor looks in her remodeled kitchen.
Lisa writes: “I love my floors!!! Thanks, again, for all of your help. I actually used the leftover flooring and had a desk top made for my kids homework room.”
While writing to us, Lisa mentioned that she used a “magic eraser” to remove a shoe mark on the new floor. Unfortunately, the magic eraser had the effect of rubbing off the Tung oil, and she wanted advice on how to fix that. Our designer, Stephanie Buckley, advised her to re-apply a little Tung oil just to the affected area. Normally, scuff marks can be removed with a little white vinegar on a cloth.
Carlisle’s Heart Pine comes from a 30,000-acre plantation in Alabama, owned and operated by the Crosby family. It’s available in widths ranging from 4 to 17 inches, and lengths averaging 11 feet.
