Welcome to Surface, a blog by Carlisle Wide Plank Floors. Join us in discussion about hardwood flooring wood grains & styles, home decor, green building products, trends and more.
Here at Carlisle Wide Plank Floors, we love Robin Wilson. Not only did the eco-designer, known nationally for her firm Robin Wilson Home, sign 200 copies of her book Kennedy Green House at the Opening Night for our newest Design Showroom, located in the Architects & Design Building in New York City, but her work also reflects all of our values about sustainability, green living, and making appropriate use of reclaimed materials.
Kennedy Green House, published by Greenleaf Book Group, chronicles the collaboration between Robin and Robert Kennedy Jr. on Kennedy’s Westchester County Home. Starting with the architectural plans, moving through the selection of the builder and of eco-friendly building materials, and ending with the installation of eco-innovations, custom cabinets and energy-efficient appliances, Robin uses the house as a stepping off point to help readers who’d like to build a “green” house or make their current house more eco-friendly.
The idea is to ensure that information is available to integrate readers into their own personal eco-systems, so their homes, furnishings, lifestyle choices and health will be improved and in sync.
Based in New York City, Robin Wilson Home focuses on residential and commercial interior design, consulting, licensing, and the online Nest Store. Her work has been featured in Good Housekeeping’s LEED-certified brownstone project, Esquire’s Ultimate Bachelor Apartment terrace, Peninsula Hotel Spa salon, and President Bill Clinton’s Harlem office.

We had a smashing opening night for our brand new New York City Design Center Monday, May 16. Our very special guest, the nationally known eco designer Robin Wilson, signed and personalized 200 copies of her new book, Kennedy Green House Book, for those in attendance.
After the event, Robin sent a lovely note to our CEO, Mike Stanek:
Thank you so much for making my book signing part of your showroom opening. The elegance and simplicity of the showroom with the floating panels is a strong statement for the NYC designer/architect marketplace. The buzz for your showroom was significant because I have heard others speaking about it during an architect meeting yesterday.
The New York City Design Center is located on the fifth floor of the Architects & Design Building, 150 East 58th Street. Give us a call at 646-666-8276 and make an appointment to stop by! We’d love to see you.

Robin Wilson’s book can be purchased at Amazon.com. Watch the next blog posting for more information about Robin and Kennedy Green House Book! And here are some photos from Monday’s big event. That’s Robin in the first picture with her book — against the backdrop of our beautiful Wide Plank Flooring. You’ll see her in some of the other pictures with opening night goers.

Drum roll, please!
We’ll launch Carlisle’s newest Design Center, located in the Architects & Designers Building in New York City, at an Opening Night event Monday, May 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening will feature drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Carlisle CEO Michael Stanek and other company executives will be on hand to talk about flooring design. And special guest Robin Wilson will autograph copies of her book.
Wilson is an eco-designer whose interior design projects include the Westchester home of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Harlem office of President Bill Clinton. Her book, Kennedy Green House, chronicles the remodeling and redesign of Kennedy’s private residence. The first 200 guests at the opening night will receive a free copy. It all happens at 150 East 58th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues. You’ll find us on the fifth floor.

Many thanks to Elliott + Elliott Architects of Blue Hill, Maine, for sending along these photos of a residential project the firm designed. Located on Little Cranberry Isle, Maine, the house was built by Michael Westphal Construction.
The kitchen makes great use of traditional elements like paneled walls and ceiling and a Carlisle floor – Country Grade Antique Heart Pine in face widths of 5 to 9 inches and lengths of 2 to 12 feet, finished with our Tung Oil – coupled with the clean lines of contemporary kitchen fittings.
Antique Heart Pine is one of the reclaimed floors we offer. It comes from antique buildings slated for demolition. Carlisle has 100% Post Consumer Antique Reclaimed Certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. This means that every single LEED credit qualifying Carlisle board is a genuine antique and has been in our care from the dismantling process to the moment it is resold.
We think it’s a terrific choice for the Little Cranberry Isle house!
