Wide pine floors in humid environments? Absolutely, says Hawaii property manager

When a prospective customer in Hawaii wondered how wide pine floors perform in the long term in a very humid environment, we got in touch with Holly Lazo, principal broker at Kaui Island Vacations Inc. One of the high-end vacation rental properties that Holly manages, the Hanalei Bay House, has a Carlisle antique reclaimed floor made of milled barnwood. Holly likes it so much she’s considering ordering one of our floors for her own home!

Holly told us she’d be happy to tell the prospective customer about how terrific the Hanalei floors are. She wrote: “I can most definitely assure her that they are the sturdiest, best looking, and lowest maintenance floors that we have in any of our homes and they are all used as vacation rentals. Every home should have these floors!”

Here’s a look at the floors in the Hanalei Bay House:

Wide plank floors add drama, distinction in urban setting

Sure, wide plank wood floors are a great match in a rural home, be it an antique or a contemporary design. But they’re a perfect accent in an urban setting as well. Here are several photographs of a really spectacular project we completed with Robin Reigi Inc. in New York City. Robin Reigi specializes in sourcing, development, and marketing of innovative architectural materials, artisans and fabricators — we’re delighted to have the company among our preferred partners.

This dramatic floor, in an exclusive NYC home, is 3,800 square feet of walnut with clear pre-finishing, all in 7-inch face widths. It really adds richness and depth to the glass-and-angles city feel of the place.

Carlisle floors are durable and feel good, installer writes

We love it when customers are pleased with their Carlisle floors, be they made from a hardwood, such as hickory, birch, maple, or cherry, from one of our two varieties of pine, or from antique wood reclaimed from demolished buildings. And we especially appreciate it when installers who work with many products recommend our floors.

Earlier this month, Brian Ciota, vice president of McClurg Remodeling and Construction Services in Marcellus, New York, offered some nice words about Carlisle in McClurg’s Home Remodeling and Repair Blog. In an entry titled “Could Your Home Use a Facelift? Start with New Flooring,” Brian covered various options, including carpeting, ceramic tiles, and linoleum. In a section on wood floors, he wrote:

Specialty woods like hickory can make a home’s decor look more unique. Wide plank flooring is also gaining popularity with homeowners. A product we’ve installed is Carlisle Wide Plank Flooring. Finishes are durable and the floor feels good underfoot.

Thanks, Brian! We agree that our floors feel great underfoot!

In these days of awareness about the environment and the economy, many homeowners are remodeling existing small spaces instead of buying a new house or building an addition. Steve Kleber of Kleber & Associates, a home-products marketing agency, has written about The Small Spaces Trend in a new white paper.

Read more about Kleber’s ideas in a blog entry titled Smaller Spaces, More Interesting Design posted on the industry blog Daily 5 Remodel

The blog reports on several of Kleber’s suggestions for giving small spaces an open feel, including this one: Thinking creatively, one product Kleber likes for enhancing the look of a small space is Carlisle Wide Plank Floors. “The distinctive width of Carlisle’s planks make a visual impact, transforming a small space into a memorable one,” he said.

Kleber will be giving a free webinar with Daily 5 Remodel on May 17. Click here to register.
