Welcome to Surface, a blog by Carlisle Wide Plank Floors. Join us in discussion about hardwood flooring wood grains & styles, home decor, green building products, trends and more.

At Carlisle we work with some amazing craftsman - our very own craftsman who build every floor in New Hampshire, and those we work with outside Carlisle who install the floors. We believe that every floor is special and beautiful but sometimes you run across a project or a flooring photo that takes your breath away and is really unique.
One such photo came across our emails today from Dan Vincenzo or Artek Hardwoods in Windsor, CT. Dan has installed our floors for a number of years and as a Preferred Installer we won't hesitate to refer him to a new customer or a customer needing some TLC to repair a project. When you see these you can see why!

This cute Western Colorado bungalow went through some major renovations. Part of the renovation included Carlisle floors. The customers worked with Wide Plank Specialist, Sarah Bergren, of our Denver, CO showroom.
Check out the before and after photos including Carlisle wide plank White Oak flooring, 6-10" wide and finished with a Rubio treatment.

Here at Carlisle we work with a majority of clients who are choosing to redesign their homes rather than build new ones but with the desire of making spaces better and more functional. Kitchens have become one of the most important rooms in a home, so alot of emphasis is placed on how they work and look. Many times clients think they need all new cabinets or appliances or big additions to make their home better. But as this Cheyenne, Wyoming home shows us that is not the case.
That is why we are inspired by this project and bring you 10 Ways to Redesign your Kitchen Space (addition not necessary).

He wanted a contemporary, loft-style home crafted with concrete and steel. She wanted a historic house with a traditional feel. With the help of architects Julie Fisher and Rachel Crowl of fcStudio, a Chicago couple turned a rundown house in the Wicker Park Historic District into a home that suits both their tastes. We’re delighted to note they chose Carlisle White Oak floors to help bridge the gap between historical and contemporary styles.
Chicago Home + Garden magazine wrote about the house in a March-April 2011 feature story titled Best of Both Worlds. The story includes lots of terrific photos of the house, both interior and exterior.
“They were looking for a cleaner, more contemporary overall look but wanted a species of wood and color tone that grounded the floors to bring a warmth and ‘home-like’ atmosphere,” remembers Glen Ranagan of Carlisle’s sales and design staff, who handled the project from our end.
“The color and grain was very important, and after working with the designer on just the right color to achieve the look they wanted, it was our Quartered and Rift-Sawn Northern White Oak with our custom Sturbridge Brown stain that was a perfect match!,” Glen continues. He notes that the 7-inch wide plank were installed over radiant heating systems.
If you’re in the area, visit us at our Chicago showroom.

“What a beautiful home…..and floors!” says Glen.
We couldn’t agree more.
