A word about engineered floors, from Don Carlisle

SOLID ENGINEERING.

I’m sure it surprised a lot of folks when we first announced our new line of Carlisle Engineered Floors last December. After all, Carlisle has been synonymous with solid wood flooring for over 40 years.

When we first started kicking around the idea, we singled out three guiding principles: (1) any engineered floors we produced would have to look, feel and stand the test of time just as beautifully as our solid floors, (2) in order to make sure of that, they would have to be subjected to the same one-board-at-a-time craftsmanship that has long been our hallmark and (3) they would have to be environmentally friendly. In other words, it was much like the way we approached pre-finished floors—we were determined to do it only if we could do it right.

We believe we’ve succeeded on all fronts and our rapid acceptance in the market place has confirmed it.

For starters, our planks are a full 3/4” thick. The 3/16” top surface or wear layer utilizes the very same superior woods as our solid floors—beautiful tight-grained heartwood from sustainably harvested trees that were grown in ideal environments. Secondly, our backing is comprised of eleven layers of 12 mm solid marine grade Birch. This is virtually unheard of in engineered flooring. In addition to being highly moisture resistant, this gives our floors a solid wood “feel” when walked on.
