I recently had the pleasure of working on an exciting commercial project in Baltimore, Maryland. The Wit & Wisdom Tavern, at the Four Seasons Hotel in the Baltimore Inner Harbor, was designed by renowned Chef Michael Mina of the Mina Group (http://www.witandwisdombaltimore.com/people/michael_mina/). Coined as a modern American Tavern it offers comfort food in a contemporary waterfront setting.
To create this interior décor the design team for Wit & Wisdom had to choose a wood floor based on:
1. Character to suit the style of the tavern
2. Ceruse Color to complement the color scheme
3. Durability for a commercial setting
4. Ability to install the floor on concrete
5. Ease of installation
I was happy to provide the design team with samples, photographs and design ideas to narrow down their choice. After much deliberation a final selection was made:
• Wide Plank Hickory Hardwood Flooring
Wide Plank hickory hardwood flooring was a great choice as the hardest hardwood in North America. It will provide a durable surface for a busy restaurant
The Footworn texture gives the floor a worn look, reminiscent of the historical Baltimore architecture.
• Custom Ceruse color
Developed by our expert finishers
• 9-10-11” wide boards
Gives the floor an authentic wide plank look, and matches the scale of the large tavern room
• Installed Direct to Concrete
To save money on plywood, and reduce height problems Carlisle advised on installation direction to concrete
• Installed by Carlisle Master Craftsman Bob Humphreys of Majestic Wood Floors
To mitigate issues and provide for the most successful out come Carlisle was happy to refer the clients to a preferred installer!
This wide plank wood floor is sure to be a long term architectural element for this upscale restaurant. Want more information on the restaurant find out more at their website.
