Carlisle introduces Watermill flooring

Carlisle Wide Plank Floors unveils its Watermill texture for wood flooring — a new process that replicates the look of older floors whose boards were originally rough sawn through the use off riverside watermills. These floors, installed centuries ago, were never planed or scraped smooth prior to installation. Over the years these saw marks became worn smooth through foot traffic, but they remained as undulations in the board.

By leaving the original saw marks on its timber, Carlisle’s Watermill texture is an authentic reproduction of this process, compared to faux marks put into boards in an obvious pattern. Carlisle’s planks are then individually brushed to soften the texture, while also adding texture to the entire surface, creating a more harmonious worn look. Scroll down to the photo below to see a sample of our Walnut flooring finished with Watermill texture.

“Our Watermill texture replicates a historic process, allowing us to craft floors with the eternal reminder of a bent tooth in the original sawyer’s watermill saw,” says Chris Sy, national sales director for Carlisle. “We incorporated the brushing technique afterwards to give the boards a naturally worn look. By doing this you can have a floor that looks 200 years old the day you install it in your home.”

What makes Carlisle’s Watermill texture so unique is that it is an exact replica of the original, easily seen marks representing the original production methods. Custom-made Watermill floors will perform the same and have the same life span as all other Carlisle floors, each of which is capable of lasting more than 200 years.
