For many people the lines between the office and the home have become very gray. And according to Forbes magazine nearly one third of all American are freelancers, and they will surpass full-time employees in the next 6 years.
We are all immersed in tablets, laptops, Wi-Fi and remote desktop connections that make plugging into our office easier than ever. The Home Real Estate site Zillow predicts it will be one of the most popular rooms for homeowners to tackle in 2014. Rather than toiling away at your kitchen table, why not find a space to create a home office.
The average home office project costs about $27,292, according to Remodeling Magazine. But before you apply for a home equity loan, or pause your project altogether, let’s stop and think “space planning”, and consider the under-used space already in the home.
Do you have an eat-in kitchen? How often do you really use that dining room? Is there an underused closet?
Once you decide WHERE your office will be it is time to start planning for how it will function and the overall aesthetics. There are 5 major components to consider when designing your home office.

Vintage Furniture
The Real Estate website zillow.com surveyed several interior designers recently. Their findings, vintage furniture is finding its way into the home office. Desks no longer need to be behomoth work stations capable of storing the desktop computer. The laptop, tablet, wireless printers and other devices make it so desks can be practical and pretty.

Gray Color Pallet
The gray and neutral colors are also popular among designers in 2014, according to Zillow. In a recent survey interior designer Michelle Workman Interiors said they are “soothing and non-distracting effect” ideal for a productive workspace”.
