With a purely utilitarian methodology, early New Englanders didn't have the resources or the aesthetic need to mill their floor planks to perfectly smooth finishes. Some of the saw marks, known as "kerfs," were unavoidably left in the surface of the wood. Our specially trained craftsmen use many of the same tools from that period to recreate the past in your home. Leaving kerf marks in the surface of your floor planks is one common way of helping you achieve that charming, centuries-old look.
