Installing Over Concrete
When It’s Wood Over Concrete, It’s Carlisle Over The Competition.
Carlisle provided us with a dramatic, artistic look not found in even the most fashionable of inner city hotels. The direct-to-concrete installation saved us a tremendous amount of time and money. Now several years later, the floor remains as warm, inviting and as flat as when installed.“
—Sarah Abdallah, Finish Designer Tony Chi Associates Park Hyatt Hotel, Washington, DC
Concrete is like any other floor, it simply has the potential of retaining more moisture. To successfully install wood flooring over concrete you need three things:
- The concrete must be dry.
- A vapor barrier should be installed over it to guard against seasonal fluctuations.
- The wood must be of the highest quality.
All wood will shrink or expand when exposed to a variety of temperature and humidity conditions. But Carlisle wood will also remain flat and stable because our boards are:
- Sourced from bigger, better trees—slowly grown in ideal climates which means tighter rings/denser grain.
- Sawn from heartwood, the densest, driest part of the tree which is less likely to absorb moisture.
- Slowly air dried for up to a year before final kiln drying for harder fibers and more stable boards.
- Milled one-at-a-time under stringent quality control.
The widest boards, the broadest experience
Only Carlisle offers:
- The longest and widest boards in the industry.
- In-depth experience in every method of wood over concrete installation.
- Step-by-step guidance and expertise from highly trained Sales Representatives.
- Proven success for over 40 years in homes from coast to coast.
- Pre-finished or unfinished options, engineered or solid options, newly sawn and FSC Antique Reclaimed options.
The answer is yes. Now what was the question?
- When installed properly, will a Carlisle floor overcome any and all problems associated with concrete?
- Will Carlisle wide planks remain as stable as narrower boards?
- Will cheaper wood floors be more prone to problems?
- Will my Carlisle floor remain flat and beautiful for generations?
- When people say wood installed over concrete will eventually cup or twist, are they unfamiliar with Carlisle wood?
- Does Carlisle back its wood and workmanship with a lifetime guarantee?
