When laying hardwood floors over concrete, one must be particularly careful to make sure the process is completed the correct way. 1.The concrete must be dry. Before laying hardwood flooring over concrete, make sure the concrete is fully dried. It is equally as important to do this on an older slab as a new slab with freshly poured concrete. Although all wood will shrink or expand at some time, Carlisle floors remain flat and stable since they are sourced from bigger trees, as well as made from the heartwood of the tree, which is the driest part and less likely to absorb moisture.
2.Make sure a vapor barrier is installed over the concrete. There are many different methods and types of vapor barriers to choose from. Please call your Carlisle Design Consultant to discuss the best options. This barrier will serve as a guard against water for your floor. Naturally over time, water will migrate up into the slab from the ground. This vapor barrier will prevent the water from migrating from the slab into the wood.
