Carlisle is nestled in the midst of some of the finest hardwoods in the world —New England and a few surrounding states—where changing seasons and relatively short summers create one of the world’s best growing environments for slow-growing hardwood trees. Over the years, our family has developed relationships with a good number of sawmills throughout each region, each of which specializes in a particular type of hardwood. When they come upon a timber of a particular age, girth and length, they know to set it aside for us. Our wide plank hardwood floors are for those in search of a “one-of-a-kind” floor that’s not only dense, but also encompasses the true character of each butt log from which it was sawn. Due to the density, hardwood floors don’t get marked up very much over time. But the wood itself has its own story to tell.

We craft two styles of hardwood floors that differ not in quality, but in overall look they bring to the home. Our Select floor is chosen for its even grain structure, limited number of knots, wide widths and extremely long lengths. These rare and simple beauties lend themselves to virtually any floor design. Our Country floor is characterized by its beautiful knots, color variations, and many other anomalies instilled by Mother Nature. We feel this floor emulates one of the few things in a home that has not been tampered with by man.

In its fine lines are the beautiful “wrinkles” made every year after years as the wood aged. And amazingly, every know tells where a limb reached out to eh sky; and every check or color marking tells of the weather it endured over the years.
