Old Growth Heart Pine
The longleaf Southern Pine, or “heart Pine” as it is popularly known, is famous for its amber orange heartwood. For years, its tremendous strength made it the wood of choice for building ship masts, bridges and the factories of the Industrial Revolution. Today, it’s an increasingly popular choice for wide plank flooring due to its warm pumpkin-colored patina and dense grain structure. We acquire this material from newly sawn old growth timber selectively harvested from a personal managed forest. Our family has a long-standing relationship with a southern family that has been carefully grooming their Heart Pine land for over three generations.
Selectively harvested from a personally managed forest.
The key to their success is a deeply rooted belief that larger, more mature timber has the greatest value. Now in the third generation, their style of forest management lends itself perfectly to the way Carlisle crafts truly traditional wide plank floors from high quality old growth timber.
All grades of our Old Growth Heart Pine are sawn from the same high quality timber.
It is important to remember that choosing between the different styles of our Heart Pine floors is a decision based on aesthetics rather than on quality. The difference in their appearance is due to where they cut from within the timber. Our Premium Grade floor will have a tighter, denser grain structure, more vertical grain and more heartwood content. Each tree produces few planks with these characteristics, making this a truly special wood. Our Country Grade Heart Pine will include some heartwood, and will have a wider gain structure, resulting in a more “country” look
For the expertise, the quality and the truly authentic look that your home deserves.
