Forest to Floor

To say that our wood is solid is an understatement. We care deeply that our plank floors are beautiful, but it's equally important to us that they are practical, that they last, and that they endure for the lifetime of your home. Our careful process has been fine-tuned over decades so that your floors will last for centuries.

From The Heart

From The Heart

The early New England settlers used the widest, longest boards available because it saved precious time in the construction of their new homes. They also cut boards from the center, or heart, of the tree because they would be less likely to warp or shrink and would be harder with large, busy families of that era. Very few floors today have these inherent characteristics.  Today at Carlisle, we insist on the same quality standards so with proper maintenance, these floors will remain in place for centuries to come, while you add your own character to the floor.  A work of art that can be passed from one generation to the next.

Optimum Growing Conditions

Optimum Growing Conditions

Our wood is strategically procured from areas around the country where each species grows best, because the quality of a floor board is only as good as the quality of the tree you start with.  Even under these strict guidelines only certain trees meet the strict standards for our proprietary grades and quality.

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental Sustainability

At Carlisle, we balance of appreciation for wood with design and architectural and environmental sustainability so future generations can enjoy the same majestic forests of our country.  We build beautiful floors that last forever without causing any detriment to our forests. Therefore, we work exclusively with a small, carefully selected group of timber growers who uphold the highest standards of sustainability. In fact, due to our meticulous standards, only one tree in every five acres passes our inspection, which ensures that we’ll never clear a whole tree stand, allowing younger trees to mature.

One Board At A Time

One Board At A Time

Each floor is made one at a time, one board at a time - a practice unheard of in the wood flooring industry that believe crafting a floors means feeding a board into a molder.  The average flooring mill makes 5,000 SF per hour, Carlisle makes about 360 square feet per hour.  At Carlisle it is a true work of art, an interactive, intense process, carried out by experienced Carlisle craftsman who scrutinize every board, and know the intricate steps that go into building a wide plank floor that meets the highest level of quality our customers expect.
