Engineered Wood Floors
Like our decision to offer prefinished flooring, adding engineered floors to our lineup was not something we undertook lightly. We knew that “engineered” is an industry term that can refer to a wide variety of floor offerings, many of which are of inferior quality and with short life spans.
Our goals were fourfold:
- Create engineered floors that used exactly the same premium woods and one-board-at-a-time quality control as our solid floors.
- Assemble the engineered floors using a formaldehyde free process.
- Make sure that when walked upon, they had the same feel as our solid floors – unlike the spongy feel often associated with floating or snap-down floors.
- Make sure they were highly suitable for both concrete and radiant heat applications.
These we have accomplished, and we invite you to compare our engineered floors with any other on the market today.

Our engineered floors contain no measurable amounts of harmful VOCs, including formaldehyde. This means you won’t have to worry about degraded indoor air quality either during installation or years down the road.
Like our solid floors, Carlisle Engineered Floors are made to last for generations, with minimal care. Yet they offer all the same advantages as engineered flooring.
They are available in all the sustainably harvested, newly sawn woods we offer. Unfortunately, because of its unique rustic character and imperfections, our FSC Antique Reclaimed Wood is not suitable for engineered flooring.
Many Solid Advantages
11-ply Baltic Birch backing; available in Pines & Hardwoods
In addition to a 3/16-inch wear layer, made from the identical wood as of our solid floors, they are amazingly stable – with a full 3/4-inch thickness, including 11 layers of 12 millimeter solid marine-grade birch backing, assembled using a formaldehyde free adhesive. This is virtually unheard of in engineered flooring. In addition to being highly moisture resistant, this thickness and backing result in a solid wood “feel” when walked on.
Our engineered floors also offer both the widest and longest engineered boards in the industry. This again means a more stable floor, plus fewer joints and seams — no jigsaw puzzle look.
Because of the tight tolerances of our state-of-the-art milling machines, these floors also have a smoother finish, with superior tongues and grooves for a better fit than typical engineered planks, whose joints can split, splinter and fit unevenly.
All the above stability features mean that Carlisle Engineered floors are ideal for both concrete and radiant heat applications as well as traditional subfloors.
