The Woods We Offer

Carlisle offers the largest variety of exceptional solid and engineered wood flooring available today. Our products fall into two general categories: sustainably harvested newly sawn woods and FSC Antique Reclaimed woods. Both distinguish themselves from lesser woods in important ways. For example, all our newly sawn woods come from trees grown only in carefully managed forests — and in specific climates which produce optimum growth for each individual species.

Equally important, our Antique Recycled woods don’t come from just anywhere. They have been carefully dismantled from historic buildings slated for demolition and have received not just one but two certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council.

Pine Floors

Eastern White Pine

Carlisle’s Eastern White Pine and Longleaf Heart Pine floors each have unique histories as traditional American flooring materials. The former was the choice of the early New England colonists, who took advantage of its easy availability not only for flooring, but for structural timbers and siding. The latter was the strong, tough building material used throughout the Southeast and Eastern Seaboard in the 1800s, earning the moniker “the wood that spawned the American Industrial Revolution.”

Hardwood Floors

Walnut

Most American hardwood trees are highly adaptive. You’ll find them in one form or another all the way from Canada to Florida and Texas. But it is primarily in New England, the upper Midwest, the Ohio River Valley and portions of the Appalachians where cool, short summers allow individual species of these trees to slowly grow to their maximum heights and circumferences. This translates into tighter, denser grains and optimum beauty for woodworking, cabinetry and especially wide plank flooring.

Over the years, Carlisle has developed relationships with small local sawyers in all these regions in order to procure the very best hardwoods from the very best growing climates. These are people who share our environmental vision and goals of producing America’s finest hardwood flooring from forests grown and managed in a totally sustainable manner. We consider them to be part of our extended family.

FSC Antique Reclaimed Wood Floors

Antique Heart Pine

Reclaimed wood is a relative newcomer to the flooring market. Only recently have home builders and renovators come to fully appreciate its historic merit and unique beauty. This has meant that entire industries have sprung up in order to meet the growing demand for reclaimed building materials, especially antique wood.

But it’s important to realize that not all reclaimed wood is procured, processed and resold in the same manner. Carlisle has worked to achieve 100% Post Consumer Antique Reclaimed Certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. This means that every single LEED credit qualifying Carlisle board is a genuine antique and has been in our care from the dismantling process to the moment it is resold.

By embracing these and other strict guidelines, Carlisle has become the most requested supplier of antique wood in North America. When you walk on a Carlisle FSC Antique Reclaimed floor, you can almost feel the spirit of the past resonate beneath your feet. It is a rich, warm comfort that only time, and more time, can create.

Note: Because of its aged character and imperfections, our FSC Antique Reclaimed wood cannot be offered as engineered flooring.
