Pre-finished flooring has been out there a long time. But we waited. We held off until we could be sure of getting it right. Right, environmentally. And right, in terms of maintaining the lustrous traditional look for which Carlisle finishes are famous.
So we’re proud to now offer Carlisle Custom Coat finishes - stains and topcoats which are totally unlike anything else in pre-finished flooring, both in the way they are formulated and the way in which they are applied.
Most other pre-finished floors come with the bottom of the boards unfinished, which, because of moisture absorption, can mean instability as well as mold and mildew problems. But Carlisle Custom Coat™ finishes are applied to the top and bottom by our Custom Shop craftsmen so that the board will stay dry, flat and stable. Plus, they incorporate a special additive which further inhibits mold, mildew and other unhealthy airborne microbes.
Any color. Any surface treatment. Any width up to 12 inches.
In addition to a clear top coat, our Custom Coat finishes are available in all thirteen of our historic stains or any individually-created color you desire. The stains are even applied to tongues and grooves. Plus our boards are available in widths up to twelve inches. That’s something no one else offers. We can also pre-finish any and all of our custom surfaces and textures, including foot-worn, hand-scraped and saw kerf - plus any of our antique woods.
We even offer a commercial version of Custom Coat that stands up to the heaviest foot traffic in the busiest of places.

Goodbye acclimating, goodbye drying time.
Because our Custom Coat floors come to you completely sealed and cured, they are ready for immediate installation. So you don’t have to first stack them in your house to let them acclimate. Or wait, wait, wait while each coat dries, which can be a real problem in humid climates. Which means any professional installation will now go faster and more economically. And if you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you won’t have to live with smelly fumes, sticky floors and stacked furniture for days on end.
FYI: No VOC’s
First and foremost, these finishes are formulated to be environmentally friendly. For example, they contain no measurable Volatile Organic Compounds which can pose a significant health hazard as they escape into the air when finishes are applied on site. Yet they are gorgeous. With a deep, rich patina that looks rubbed in rather than painted on.
