Why Red Oak Floors Were the Perfect Fit For This Custom Home

Wide Red Oak flooring is a unique request and Carlisle Wide Plank Floors recently had the opportunity to work with J. D. Cooper of Cooper Home & Stable in Aiken, South Carolina, and his homeowners on a custom home.

He recently sent along some photos of a Carlisle Wide Plank Red Oak floor, which the clients chose for their new home.

The customers worked with a Carlisle Wide Plank Specialist to select Heirloom Grade  Red Oak, this would create a floor with fewer knots, for a more formal appearance.  The husband and wife also wanted wider boards and chose All 8-inch Face Widths.  Carlisle also made the floor in long lengths, some boards were up to 14′ long.

If you have ever shopped for wood flooring you know that most Red Oak flooring is 2 1/4″ – 5″ wide, and only 18″ – 7′ long.  The client recognized that by using All 8″ boards, and having longer lengths in the floor, they would dramatically reduce the number of seams in their floor.

When the clients first started working with Carlisle, they had their hearts set up on a walnut floor, but due to cost, Carlisle was able to provide them with some beautiful alternatives.  The one they chose was our Wide Plank Red Oak, but since it is a naturally light floor, they used a darker finish to recreate the Walnut color.
