Also called parquet floors, patterned floors may use a variety of well-known hardwood patterns or a pattern that is custom-designed by the homeowner, architect or floor designer. The Versailles pattern, inspired by floors in the Palace of Versailles, is made with large squares within which short floor boards that are laid out for a woven or thatched appearance.
