Customizing your modern Oak flooring
A Carlisle, we offer a broad range of options for designing modern Oak flooring.
It starts with your choice of wood. In addition to a variety of other hardwoods and pines, we offer three types of Oak that lend themselves well to modern hardwood floors. Our Red Oak floorboards are harvested from forests in New England where cold winters produce tight consistent grain, ideal for modern floors. Red Oak floor colors offer deep salmon tones in the heartwood. Our White Oak timbers feature dramatic grain patterns ranging from simple and sleek to intricate vibrant swirls, while the nutty brown hues of White Oak are ideal for staining or for a natural finish that preserves the timeless color of the wood. We also offer Rift and Quartersawn White Oak planks, cut with special techniques that produce straight parallel lines in the grain that run the entire length of the plank, creating a perfectly even appearance that works well for modern Oak flooring.
Our Oak floorboards can be ordered with two different grades. Our Original Grade timbers feature more of the character of the wood – knots, mineral streaks, ingrown bark and color variations. Our Heirloom Grade boards offer less character and more consistency, which makes them ideal for contemporary or modern Oak flooring.
We also offer both solid wood and engineered wood flooring. Engineered boards are made with multiple layers of a backing material that is topped with a “wear layer” – a thick veneer of hardwood – to create a floorboard that is more resistant to temperature changes and high levels of humidity. Our engineered floors look identical to our solid wood products and are ideal for basements or other locations below grade as well as installation on concrete slab or over radiant heat.
Color is perhaps the most significant option for modern Oak flooring. We offer a virtually endless variety of stains and can match the color of any item you send to us to create a stain color that is uniquely yours.
Texture can add character and visual interest to modern Oak flooring. While texturing techniques are designed to give floors an older or more traditional appearance, certain techniques like wire brushed treatments and hand-scraped edges can produce an Oak floor texture with a decidedly modern look.
We also offer floors with parquet patterns that provide enormous visual interest. While parquet floors are a traditional design feature, they can also have a distinctively modern appearance. Oak Chevron flooring adds a lot of energy and movement to a room, while Versailles European White Oak flooring adds an immediate sense of elegance and luxury.
