Prefinished Hickory flooring is sanded, stained and sealed at our manufacturing facility before being delivered to a home or business for installation. Ordering prefinished flooring can speed installation and avoid the mess and inconvenience of the sanding, staining and ceiling that unfinished Hickory flooring requires on site. Prefinished flooring also allows the manufacturer to add stronger layers of sealant to protect the floor. While some prefinished flooring has a cheap, plastic look, Carlisle prefinished flooring offers the same quality and excellence in look and feel as our unfinished flooring.
In solid Hickory flooring, each plank is made from a single piece of Hickory timber. Engineered Hickory flooring is made with multiple layers or plies of material that are glued together to form a strong core which is more resistant to changes in temperature and humidity. The top layer is made of Hickory hardwood, while the sub layers may be made of plywood, fiberboard or a hardwood like Birch. Engineered Hickory flooring is ideal for installation in basements, over radiant heating systems or on concrete slabs. While some engineered floors look and feel less solid than traditional hardwood flooring, Carlisle has perfected a technique that makes our engineered and solid Hickory flooring virtually indistinguishable.
Solid Hickory flooring can be textured or distressed to make a new floor appear as if it was salvaged from centuries-old buildings. Distressed Hickory flooring may have marks that appear to come from the cuts made at sawmills, or soft edges and worn areas that look as if the boards have been walked on for decades. Handscraped Hickory flooring features a technique that replicates the handcrafted cuts that craftsman once used to try to create straight edges before installing wood floors.
You can clean solid Hickory flooring as you would any other hardwood floor. One of the simplest cleaning solutions, vinegar and water, is actually the most effective and is safe for both floors and the environment. Simply mix 1 or 2 ounces of vinegar with 2 gallons of water and apply lightly to floors before mopping. Vinegar has a natural acidity that helps to loosen dirt and contaminants.
Solid Hickory flooring has a Janka hardness rating of 1820, which is significantly higher than other popular types of hardwood like Maple (1450), White Oak (1360) or Red Oak (1290).
